Welcoming Week

Campaign

Each year in the U.S., there’s a national campaign celebrating Welcoming Week — advocating for welcoming communities. I got to participate in a local version of that campaign. We featured refugees from around the world who are now living near us on posters, graphics, and billboards. I underestimated how challenging this project would be.

I learned a lot about the sensitivity of creative projects featuring people with fragile immigration statuses or situations back home. We finally finished it, and the people featured in the project were proud of their images. I just saw one of our posters at an event recently, even though we completed this work a few years ago!

Shot by Itzel Sanchez, designed by Suhey Campos, and directed and produced by me.
