There are more unknowns in entrepreneurship than there are knowns.
There's no fantastic road map.
There's no infallibly reliable 'how-to' guide to starting a business. Yes, there are best practices, but there's nothing out there that will guarantee your success.
Don't let the dumb things stop you.
I meet a lot of aspiring entrepreneurs who are stopped by one thing: They don't know how to do something.
With all the entrepreneur/startup-focused content floating around, it's hard to imagine that some of the most successful entrepreneurs started by knowing nothing.
There's so much content (and marketers) sharing tricks, tips, how-to's, and step-by-steps to building a badass business. It's easy to believe that there's a secret you don't know about hiding just around the corner (or podcast or book).
They'll get you with catchy titles. They'll catch you with spiffy cover art.
But you won't find the secret, because the secret doesn't exist.
If there's one secret, it's this...
You've got to do it for it to work.
You don't have to start smart to make it work. Actually, I think more entrepreneurs start dumb. They don't know exactly how to do something, but that doesn't stop them.
It boils down to this, I think...
You've got to do it for it to work, even if you start dumb.
Be unafraid to start dumb.
